We all have family members, patients, or loved ones that have been diagnosed with a type of dementia. Our Dementia 101 course will help you to understand the disease and how to help care for those diagnosed with dementia or Alzheimer’s disease.
At the completion of this course, the student will:
Be able to define Dementia and recall the various types
Understand the cognitive changes that occur for a person with dementia/Alzheimer's Disease
Recognize the growing prevalence of Dementia in the geriatric population
Identify characteristic behaviors and specific care needs for a patient/resident with dementia or Alzheimer's Disease
Be able to recall communication techniques required when speaking with a dementia patient
